LIMCA Awards Nite
Liverpool: The Liverpool Malayalee Cultural Association's (LIMCA)Kerala Piravi celebrations and Awards Nite concluded in a spectacular fashion on Saturday, 28th November. The Grand Finale was held at Broadgreen International School, Liverpool. The day witnessed culmination of LIMCA's Children's and Youth Fest celebrations that kicked off in style, on 14th November.
The day started with "Thaaramelam" stage show featuring Idea Star Singers Sonia and Somadas, and an array of famous mimicry and comedy actors and dancers. The show surpassed all expectations and took the audience through a wonderful journey of Music and laughter. The singers invited the youngsters to the stage to have a roll. Everyone enjoyed the fun filled entertainment.
Free Health checks and awareness programme by NHS on Diabetes and Cardiac diseases was held at the venue during the programme.
The afternoon session started with children's painting exhibition, where the marvellous artefacts of children were put on display for the public to appreciate. The exhibition was a testimony of immense talents of our children.
The day also marked the first anniversary celebration of "Arts School". Arts School is a joint venture of LIMCA, Milapfest and Liverpool Hope University, where Indian dances and music are taught.
Children from Arts School enthralled the audience with their debutant performances on dances and keyboard. LIMCA honoured the teachers of Arts School for their outstanding efforts and commitment in training the children.
A string of dignitaries including Prof. Bill Chambers - Pro Vice Chancellor Liverpool Hope University, Prof. Ben Shaw - Neonatal Directorate NHS, Mrs. Jill Summers - Community Cohesion Officer, Liverpool City Council were present to support and encourage the children on their performances. The prize winning dances and songs were performed once again for the audience. Winners received cash prizes, medallions and certificates. Jyothis Jojapan and Benitta Jacob won the LIMCA Kalaprathibha and Kalathilakam awards respectively, with cash prize of £100 each. As in previous years, this year also LIMCA honoured children for special achievements in academic and
extracurricular activities.
Programme Convenor Anil George welcomed the audience. Joe Eshwar anchored the events in style. In his presidential address, LIMCA President Raji Mathew stressed the importance of transmitting our rich cultural heritage to the young generation. General Secretary Mr. Jose Ouseph thanked everyone for making this year's event a resounding success.
